Yulissa Torres-Quintero is a beautiful young woman from an upper social class who has been orphaned at a very young age; For this reason, she and her brother Alberto were raised by their cruel grandmother, Doña Paula Garza vda. de Torres-Quintero, who pretends to be sick to manipulate her grandchildren. After several years, Paula is ruined and penniless, so she decides to mortgage all her assets to the landowner Ignacio Aguirre, owner of the Arroyo Negro hacienda, as a last resort to survive and avoid poverty.
